Mothers Anger

This is what the victims mother has to say. Wish it would have made a difference on sentencing. Some have all the breaks.

Honorable Judge Ryan:

I am writing this letter to you in regards to case No. 2008-CF-224, People of the State of Illinois vs. Christopher Scutt. I know that this case is set for sentencing this Friday, January 9th. I am the mother of the 15 year old victim. I know that you have heard the other side of the case, but I would like for you to hear our side. I thank you in advance for reading this letter.

Since that day in March when Michelle told all of us about that terrible night in November of 2007, all of our lives have changed. Michelle isn’t the same young lady that she was. I am sure that you listened to the phone tap against Chris Scutt. He admitted to drugging her first. Did you know that she is a liver transplant baby and after that drugging she had to go through ultra sounds, blood work and liver biopsy’s? All of which her Dr’s. still could not figure why her numbers were bad. I talked to her Dr. after I found out what happened and was told that that could have been what did it. It also could have put her into rejection and/or killed her.

Her grades at school have also dropped considerably. I would also like you to know that this wasn’t the first time that happened. Chris Scutt had slept with Michelle at least 2 other times that she told me about later. I just want to know how many times this has to happen before he gets only 4 months in county jail?

As for how this has affected the rest of us, I as her mother went through a break down. I work for Exelon, LaSalle Nuclear Station. I have been off of work since April 15th. I have been going through therapy and have been put on medication. Michelle is also going through therapy and has been prescribed Xanax to help her get through her rough days.

I was told that before any deal was made as to his sentencing that we would be contacted and asked if that was acceptable to us. We were never contacted. I understand that Chris Scutt has no priors, but deep down in me, I know that Michelle wasn’t the first and won’t be the last. I know that is only a gut feeling, but we were friends with Chris and I know him.

I am asking you to please take all of this into consideration before handing down his sentence. He will get 4 months in county and our family gets a lifetime of getting through this. I feel that he is only getting a slap on the wrist and feel he deserves more for the crime he has admitted to.

Once again, I really appreciate you taking time to read and consider this letter.

Thank you very much!!

Terri Hicks, Michelle’s Mom.
